Page updated Thursday 5/12!
Welcome! This is where I’m selling my collection of turning and craft wood, as well as spare tools and supplies, gathered over 40 years as a professional woodworker. What you see below is but the tip of the proverbial iceberg — it’s embarrassing. Although my photos and descriptions are great (!) it’s still best if you can come to Salt Spring Island and pick through the totes and shelves loaded with goodies yourself — you’re sure to find at least an armful you can’t resist.
Any questions or to make an appointment, please call me: land: 250-537-9862 or mobile/text: 250-213-2919. Or email to bob@bobmckaywoodturner.com
Thanks! Stay tuned!
20″ Woodfast Model 410
A classic workhorse. Motor is 3ph run through the inverter/controller on 220v single phase = better low end torque. Var. speed, reversible. Complete vacuum system, two extremely heavy duty chucks. Asking $2500 obo.
With the Woodfast:
drill chuck, extra live centres, extra tool rests, several face plates, shop-made centre steady, spare chuck parts, heavy duty stand with lots of lead tire weights to dampen vibration, etc.
Bonus: any 4 shop-made turning tools included
18″ wheel bandsaw
Like most imported knock-offs, when you get a good one they’re a good value, and this one continues to serve me well, but I need to downsize. Comes with half a dozen new blades and new super fence (cost $250 extra), 3 extra blade guide bearings and bearing holders, new belts and table insert. The only thing that gave up was the under-table blade pressure bearing that was continually drowned in sticky arbutus sap, and it’s been replaced. Cuts up to 12″ thick, 3 speed, 220v, 2hp, new belts and table insert, ~ 400 lbs! $1500 firm.
I would consider a good quality 14″ bandsaw in partial trade …
The Big One
Built by Kurt Frost: 3″ shaft and pillow blocks, ~12″ faceplate, ~ 5′ swing, 1.5 hp 220v 1ph, 5 ‘lances’, custom wrenches. Asking $1500 obo.
Note Woodfast in background, end corner view of stand. Base is loaded with #### lead scraps!
Big One, back side
Showing end of jack shaft, headstock pulleys, 50 rpm written on largest.
a few of the mid-size tools, average about 3′ with handles. $25 – $50 each obo.
close-up of tips above
close-up of some inside (hollowing) tips
3 home-made tips and interesting gouges
there are about 2 dozen Sorby, Henry Taylor, etc. HSS gouges and many scrapers. $25 – $50 each obo.
tip of lance closest to faceplate above. Lances are included with the Big One.
looks like an early version of the ‘captured handle’ type of hollowing setup — handle tube is hollow with set screws to hold shafts <1″, twisting torque is controlled by double rods below, no control of up force on handle.
Free to good home.
